Darin Mather, Social Science Department Chair

Education: B.L.S. University of South Dakota; M.Div. Bethel Seminary; Ph.D. Sociology, University of Minnesota.

Experience: Darin has worked in higher education for nearly 25 years, serving in Student Life, Campus Ministries and Study Abroad.  Over the last 20 years he has taught numerous ministry and social science classes to undergraduate and graduate students in face-to-face, hybrid and online formats.  He also has experience teaching in various international settings. In addition to Crown, Darin has taught at Bethel University, the University of Minnesota, and the  Evangelical Theological College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Darin has published in the Interdisciplinary Journal of Research on Religion and the Journal for the Social Scientific Study of Religion.

Teaching Expertise: Sociology; Inequality; Race, Class and Gender; Sociology of Education; International Development; Research Methods; Statistics; Worldviews; International Ministry.

Research Interests:  Religion and Development; Religion and Race; Gender Attitudes and Religion; Tolerance; Religion and Social Support.
